Supplier Punch-out does not accept email address as username

The business is engaging with a new supplier for punch-out but currently their system does not accept email addresses as usernames. Is there an option to send another value (ie. User ID) as the identifier?

Has anyone had this before? Are there any Oracle Docs regarding this? Punch-out to supplier site via cXML and we are currently on 12.1.3.
