Restoring Oracle Linux VM from tape

Running systems on Oracle Linux 6.x and backing them up using Veritas BackupExec solution to tape.  We are working on restoring a server, creating a VM by cloning a basic server setup, renaming it and then restoring from tape to that clone.  On a typical box-of-metal Red Hat system I would create a basic install of the OS, install the backup client and then do a restore excluding the /proc, /sys, /dev, /tmp, /media, /lost+found directories, which I have done successfully on 5.11 servers.  With these servers I keep running into problems where the backup agent loses connectivity with the
