Business Unit Type Classification ?

Have a basic question on Business Unit type classification and its naming structure ..

for e.x.  i see MCU as 60, B60 and its type BS-Balancesheet and BP-Branch/Plant respectively at same Level of Detail ....

question , do we need to have at least one BP MCU defined for each BS MCU  as in B60 and 60 ?

                what is purpose for defining like this?
