It is normal not to have a testing enviroment when using Essbase ASo cubes?

I am new Essbase administrator and my company only have a production environment. We use ASO Cubes (daily refreshed with data from other applications), used Shared Service Console for security and Smart view for user to retrieve the information. I will need to apply a patch and I am worried I will have to do it straight to production. Is that normal? is it easy to recover the application if something goes wrong? Any feedback from your prior experience will be very appreciated. Thanks in advance!
