How can I setup a tax rule that uses Item Category as part of the rules validation?

I have defined an Item category set to help determine if an item is Tax Exempt or not. I would like to define a tax rule, in R12 ebtax, to validate the item category associated to an item. Any suggestions on how to achieve this? Also, how would I define a tax rule that also derives the 'Input Tax Classification Code' assigned at the item level? Screenshot shown below.
