Serial control on a split line

Truth in advertising I do have this in shipping execution forum as well however hoping someone here might have a solution for we are coming up empty in SE.

We have a product with primary UOM "PCS". When customer order 1 unit, we enter quantity 1 and UOM "PCS". Actually this one unit is shipped in 2 containers. Our shipping will split the line into two lines with quantity 0.5 PCS each, so they can pack them into 2 LPNs. Now we turned on serialization on this product. We got the following error when we split the line.

The quantity cannot be a decimal number in the primary unit of measure of the item. The item is under serial number control.
