UNABLE TO GET APPS_DDL PACKAGE VERSION FROM DB APPS2

I have seen this general error where APPS2 refers to a custom product that I actually have so therefore it is not too hard to fix.  The problem here is that I have no idea what APPS2 is.  It is not in FND_PRODUCT_INSTALLATIONS, dba_source, nor is APPS2 an ORACLE user.  It is also not a dba_user.

Some other customer had this problem:

Not a bug, but can you hint at what is in the hidden text of this bug?   How did they get rid of this ghost APPS2?
