Infiniband and Ethernet Access Connections within a SuperCluster

Can you deploy an Infiniband Network and an Ethernet Network simultaneously to connect two different application servers to the same database network within a SuperCluster? I am concerned that by mixing Ethernet and Infiniband that the Secure Network Infrastructure associated with the SuperCluster that you get from Infiniband will somewhat be offset by the Ethernet implementation. One of the App Servers is an internal server (non-internet facing) and the other is an external app server (internet facing) Is this the case and what best practice should I implement?
