WLST Script for Administering Webcenter Space Attribute values

We have a space xyz created in Webcenter Spaces.  In that Portal Administration, we got certain attributes added under Attributes. Right now, we are changing those values manually through Portal Administration. But we want to automate that using WLST script.  I hope, those values will be stored in MDS. I tried to extract the MDS of Webcenter and could see the attribute property and value are stored in oracle/webcenter/space/metadata/spaces/xyz/space.xml. I tried to change those attribute values and reimport mds. Though the MDS import is successful, the values didnot reflect in Portal. I even restarted Portal/Spaces server. I am on Webcenter
