Patching WebLogic with Oracle EPM/Hyperion Products

Hello all, I am in need of some guidance on patching of WebLogic version 10.3.6.0 that came packaged with the current suite of EPM 11.1.2.3 products we are using.

How should one approach this?  It is my understanding (please correct me if I am wrong!) that the version of WebLogic that comes packaged with with EPM software should not be touched as this is the version that has been lab tested by Oracle to run best with EPM products.  If I patch WebLogic on my EPM servers, am I dooming myself to later pain?

On one hand I am cautious as I do not want to do anything that would bring our EPM (QA or PRD they are bnoth used heavily) down, but I also want to make sure our environment is as secure as possible by applying patches, especially critical.
