Install Base question on instance_usage = RETURNED

Question on what happens after instance_usage set to RETURNED.

Scenario:

Org A internal s/o transfer (csiintss) Instance1 to Org B.  Org A part serialized at receipt; Org B at Sales Order Issue.

Per did 2196079.1, upon receipt by Org B, instance1 results in instance usage = RETURNED.  In Org B, qty is added to either existing or new (if doesn’t exist) Instance2, with instance usage set to IN_INVENTORY.

  • when item gets received by Org B, is instance1 “dead”?  At what point, if any, would instance1 ever get transacted against again? 
  • E.g. If another transfer occurred on Instance2 from Org B back to Org A, it sounds like a new, instance3, is created (per did 2196079.1)—is that correct?
