DB2: Default Opt Level

The value of system preference "DB2: Default Opt Level" is set to "3" currently. We use DB2 z/os as our database. I could not find much information regarding this parameter in bookshelf. I would like to understand more about this parameter, how it's value could affect performance. and if Oracle recommends us changing the value.
