Mass update Asset Categories in order to implement Tax Books

Dear Oracle Gurus,

Looking for your advice. Is there an easy way to update about 100 Asset categories in order to link them to a newly defined Tax book, enter the associated default accounts and default depreciation method/life/prorate conventions? Wanted to check what others have done in this regard as I would have thought this to be a common task, but I am unable to find an API for asset category updates.
