Oracle 12c and MS Active Directory Authentication

I have been browsing through the docs for Oracle 12c, and I can honestly say I am confused.  We install oracle both on Redhat 7.3 and AIX 7, and are interested in using active directory authentication both for service accounts and for our users to prevent the multiple account multiple passwords kind of setup.  I am not sure if there is a native way to configure this or if I need to install Oracle Internet Directory or oracle virtual directory or Oracle directory server.   I am just not sure where to start.   Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated!
