Can I replace an HP Ultrium 4 tape drive on a Sparc T4-1 while it is running?

I have an HP Ultrium 4 tape drive connected to a PCI card on a Sparc T4-1 server.  The tape drive is the only device on the SCSI bus.  In this case, the tape drive is no longer working and I want to replace it with a spare.  My question is whether I can replace the drive while the server is operational?  In the past, an Oracle engineer told me that as long as nothing was using the SCSI bus, it could be done safely.  However, this is new hardware (Sparc T4-1 server, LTO4 tape drive), and a newer OS
