X6-2: Understanding DIMM population FMA faults

edited Jul 20, 2017 5:01AM in Sun x86 Systems (MOSC) 3 commentsAnswered

The X6-2 docs contain very specific guidance on DIMM installation ordering. See:

https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E62159_01/html/E62171/z400159e1467973.html#OSXSEz4000e6c1479151

Yet, when adjusting installed memory in a dual CPU system for benchmarking purposes, I start to see errors like this in the ILOM:

"The memory DIMMs in a channel are not populated in sequential order. (Probability:50)"

Questions:

  1. Is there any reason why this message would show if the ordering is following the above guidance exactly?

  2. Why would the "probability" be listed as "50"?  Doesn't the hardware know with certainty where the DIMMs are installed?

Howdy, Stranger!
