Query reg. upgrading Oracle Applications Database from 11.2.0.4 to 12.1.0.2

Hi,

We are trying to upgrade Oracle Applications (12.2.5) Database from 11.2.0.4 to 12.1.0.2 referring the interoperability note "Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS 12.2 with Oracle Database 12c Release 1 ( Doc ID 1926201.1 )". Is it mandatory to use DBUA for upgrading the database or a manual method of upgrading the database is also supported?
