eAM Quality Collection plan- BACKGROUND transaction

Hello,  can someone help me understand what the BACKGROUND checkbox is used for in the Collection Plan Transaction screen.  We are using collection plans during our work order completion process and want to understand if/how BACKGROUND affects us.
