12.1 OE RAC - Can RMAN Recover the DB When 1 Instance is Usually Offline?

Hi

This is 12.1 Enterprise on Linux x86_64. Almost everything is RAC, except for an application that cannot manage multiple instances.  However, the application clients require high availability.  I added a two-instance RAC database for them, and took the second instance offline.  Fail over is manual, and reversing the configuration succeeds.  The application works on the second instance, and the first goes offline.

Will this configuration cause RMAN recovery to fail?  The backups complete without errors, and the second instance, when started, works correctly.  I have not been able to duplicate the RAC database with one instance offline, so now I'm worried that should recovery be needed, it will fail, too.

Howdy, Stranger!
