Sub Inventory Transfers?

We are having trouble with transffering inventory between sub inventories. It could be related to user defined transction types, but I'm not sure. I can't find any documentation on how to set these up correctly. Any idea? In IB the qty actually adds not subtracts from the one sub inventory?
