The benefit of patv dimension on PATT Hierarchy

Hi RDF Experts,

I have been using like item automatic selection functionality for new items in RDF v15. (15.0.1)

However in RDF v16 (16.0.1), I notice that a new dimension patv is added for the product attributes hierarchy. I am not able to find out any added benefit with this new dimension, and it has made the product attribute hierarchy complicated to maintain (in terms of data integration from RMS).

Can you please share with me the benefits of this patv dimension?
