org.xml.sax.SAXException: Expected ')' instead of '.'.

Getting an error when trying to view the xls output from the application, when i load the xml data from the BI publisher tool and tried to view the output form the local desktop, the report shows the appropriate results without any errors, when i tried to uplod the template and run it from the application, am getting an error saying

org.xml.sax.SAXException: Expected ')' instead of '.'.

Not able to undersntad where it went wrong. can anyone help me on this
