Architecture for Oracle Fusion Expenses - How did you configure it?

What architecture is being used to implement the mobile app for iExpense?  Are most people using the DMZ configuration, VPN or something else?  We are on 12.2.4 and are looking to implement the mobil app and are wondering what others have found to be successful.
