Report Manager reports cannot be viewed in Excel because of incompatibility with Smartview

We currently use Hyperion Financial Management which requires the Excel Add-In, Smartview. We recently implemented Report Manager 12.1.3 and users cannot view the reports in Excel because of Smartview.  I created an Oracle SR and was told that an enhancement request has been logged and there is no rollout date for the fix.  We have a large population of users who need to view Report Manager reports in Excel and also use HFM.  Does anyone else have this requirement?  If so, have you been able to come up with a workaround?
