Period close variance

Dear Team,

While doing work order mass close system not asking for the actual closing  date and taking the current system date

My finance team closed the work order through mass close and variance created on august ,as usual we could not find cost issue at work order level

how this can be handled ,Wanted to understand the impact as we aware in EAM no role for variance

could you please though me some light
