ASM 12.2 ORA-28040: No matching authentication protocol

Hello, All

This is EM 12.1.0.5 with a 11.2 RAC repository, all on rhel 5.4.  I just added a 3-node, 12.2 cluster on Linux x86_64, and deployed agents to it.  Unfortunately, EM cannot connect to the ASM instances on the 12.2 cluster.  The error is:

Failed to connect to ASM instance. Failed to connect: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-28040: No matching authentication protocol

The monitoring configuration succeeds when I test the connection to the instances and the cluster ASM target.  But once this step succeeds, the status of the targets remains Down, and the ORA-28040 error is returned on the Home pages.

I have added a sqlnet.ora file to the TNS_ADMIN location off the 12.2 GRID_HOME.  It contains the entry SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION_SERVER=11
