Intimation to create/automatically generate Purchase order

Hi,

Is there any way to automatically generate purchase order or intimation to manually create Purchase order if my item availability reaches to certain level.

Example: Item A  availability is 4 . But I need purchase Order (auto/manual) when my availability reaches to 2.

Please advise what setup is needed to achieve this.
