Oracle XE system user password not accepted during upgrade

I've attempted to upgrade standalone version of P6 v7.0 to version 15.2 but when  I get to the wizard question : "Enter the password for your Oracle XE system user. " it keeps failing "user authentication failed."

I can login to the database with those credentials so I know the password is correct, why is it failing or is the message a Read herring"
