Does OPM use the costing org defined in organization parameters?

We use Process Manufacturing.  When I set up a new organization, I always set the Costing Org as the same org I creating.  I made a mistake this time and set up the costing org as the Master org.  See below.  I think this is only used for discrete orgs but I am not sure.  What do think?  What is the impact on OPM Financials of costing org parameter?
