How to calculate Retained Earnings Balance for a given Year

Hi Experts,

Can any one advise on How to calculate Retained Earnings Balance for  Revenues &expense Accounts for a given Year

Example: I have Assets whose Opening Balance as of Jan-2016 was 5000

    

                Since we have opened the next Year i.e Jan-2017, & now when I calculate Balance for that given asset as of Dec-2016, it remains the same.

                Please advise
