Has anyone done a modification to allow changes to Primary when commits exist?

I understand the reason JDE doesn't allow the changing of the primary.  However, I have my warehouse managers asking for the ability to do this and looking for anyone who has tried a modification and would recommend or not recommend based on lessons learned.
