how to update created_by column

Hi,

We have an existing view that has applet/bc filters based on id of logged in user comparing to created_by column. The table is a custom one not Siebel OOB. There are many dependent processes based on the link to created_by column.

Now we have a requirement to load the data into that table and created_by should be updated according to user_id provided in the dataset. I see below blog post talking about the same but it does not have enough info to start with. I don't see any examples.
