Location of the data guard observer - 12c

Hello folks

We are configuring a 12c standby database that would be running in maximum performance mode

We need to configure automatic failover of the database (so that there is no manual intervention required at database level) and for that, we need to configure the observer

The question we have is out of the 3 possible locations to configure the observer, which one would be the preferred one

1. Primary database

2. Standby Database

3. Dedicated machine that is on the same network as primary and standby database

We can safely rule out # 1 (Primary database server) since if the server goes down itself there won't be any observer left alive to perform the tasks
