What is recommended approach to run datafix which creates backup tables in ebs r12.2 ?

We have ebs r12.2.4  with 11.2 database (on Sunos). Need to run datafix which backs up the data to be deleted by creating several (small) backup tables. As this is an editioned version of ebs and database, is it recommended to have downtime to do this ie. shut down apps or is it ok to run without an outage ?

Any thoughts/insights much appreciated.
