Freight cost calculation in Ordermanagement - R12.1.3

In ordermanagement I would like to store carrier rate information, freight types, etc. to be able to calculate freight charges and assign them to a sales orderline.

Does anyone have a good reference document about the whole process? I don't have to turn freight cost into charges. The purpose is to be able to calculate freight cost based on various conditions and assign them to a sales orderline for reporting purposes.
