Tracking special events in the GL without using a GL segment.
We’d like to find some way of tacking special events/emergencies in our GL but we’ve used up all our GL segments and we don’t want to create a value in any of our existing GL segments. We also though of using an indirect project but when we set up autoaccounting for projects we never anticipated the need to charge to multiple departments and these events generally impact multiple departments.
To give you an example we are currently being impacted by a strike at one of the contractors that handles baggage handling for some of the Airlines. We are incurring a lot of overtime and have had to hire extra security and we’d like to know the net cost of the strike. We can’t create an account code for it as it belongs in different sections of the GL structure (good & services and salary costs). It’s hitting multiple departments and we don’t want to create a department to charge all the costs to as a) we don’t want to
