Database Backup and Recovery (MOSC)

rman control file backup reported obsolete right away

Hello,

I have the retention policy set to redundancy of 1. I also have controlfile autobackup on. When I do a backup current controlfile

it creates the two backup files as expected. When I do report obsolete, they both show as obsolete. So now I have no backups. Is this expected behavior and if so can someone explain why?
