OPPM Calculations -- Advance function or OPPM API ?

For making calculations in OPPM one can make use of advance functions which is written on the categories itself & the other way is to make use of OPPM API (through webservices). Now consider there are more than 2000 items in the projects which one would you prefer Advance function or Webservice to calculate & retrieve the data ?

Consider the required output can be calculated through both advance functions & OPPM API.
