Can we change rates cost type in organization parameters where costing method is average

Hi We have setup one inventory organization with costing method average costing. Set one existing user defined rate in organization parameters. We have not defined cost sub elements at that time. Now we are setting up resources and overheads for this org and would like to change this rates cost type in organization parameters. Can any one please let me know what other impact it can have if we change this now.
