Why series data is not stored in database when extra_from is enabled?

I configured a series with String datatype to store the user name who approves the order. Enabled the updated field as well as the extra_from and extra_where for this series. This series data is seen only in worksheet but not in the database. Is this an expected behavior? Please clarify.
