Disaster recovery drill using dataguard

Hello Gurus,

RHEL 7

Oracle 12.1.0.2

We are planning on doing a DR drill using dataguard(active dataguard managed by DG Broker) so i'm question is how does most of the companies do the drill, do they switchover the databases or actually do the failover  of the production DB?

I have to do this in production so please advice . I would need an opinion on how generally folks do this at their shops .
