Server Configuration

in Oracle Transportation Management (MOSC) Question

I am looking at doing my first OTM upgrade. We are on version 6.3.3 and are looking at upgrading to 4.2. I was reviewing their recommended server configuration and noticed it is very different than what we have today. How important or how big of a difference will it make to install each layer/process on its own server?

From OTM's install.pdf:

Production instances of any Oracle Transportation Management or Global Trade Management will normally run each of the above component layers on separate servers. For instance, we would see the following configuration:
Server One: Database layer
Server Two: Application Layer
