Depreciation Close and Create Accounting Entry

Is it necessary to run the Depreciation Close or Create Accounting Entry process if you are not creating journal entries to GL?  What are the disadvantage of not running the Depreciation Close or Create Accounting Entry process even if you are not journal generating to GL?
