weblogic upgrade question from 12.1.x to 12.2.1.1

Could you please advise if below upgrade path is possible ? Weblogic 12.1.x binaries are setup in Linux for example /opt/weblogic and weblogic domain is configured /opt/mydomain. Would it be possible to just replace binaries of weblogic 12.1.x under /opt/weblogic with binaries of 12.2.1.1 in order to upgrade from version 12.1.x to version 12.2.1.1 or those weblogic are too different even thought they are 12c ?

Above upgrade is possible when upgrading from weblogic 10.3.4 to 10.3.6 but not sure if that solution could be used while upgrading existing domain from 12.1.x to 12.2.1.1 ?
