12.2.5 Customer IB and Lot Controlled

We have implemented Customer Only IB, but we encounter User-defined Exception error in many cases, which cause the order line to fail to interface to the IB. Once such example appears to be related to Lot Controlled items where the Lot Number is not being passed with the transaction. I have plenty of OM and IB experience, but less on the Materials side, so I cannot say why this happens. Let's just assume the current work around would be to manually create the instances in IB, what is the impact of putting a 'fake' Lot Number in the IB? Is
