Pro-active database patches for ODA, or stick to ODA Bundle Patch Sets Only?

Last week we applied the 12.1.2.12.0 patch set to our ODA X5-2.  Other than some VM migration & config updates, everything went smoothly. 

Now however, our OEM Refresh from MOS job shows several database & OJVM patches still recommended for the databases on the ODA's 2 nodes.

Specifically the OEM patch recommendation job is suggesting the 12.1.0.2.171017 DB level patches. 

Is it advisable to apply stand-alone patches to various software homes on the ODA?  Or should we be patient and stick to the ODA-specific bundle patch sets?

Along the lines of waiting until the next ODA bundle patch, do you know when 12cR2 will be released for the ODA?  We had heard November, but then heard not until January.
