Clear arrears for entire population

Hi! We want to clear arrears for several elements for the entire population of employees, over 5000.  We don't want to update each individual element entries. Is there a way to update it globally?

I have updated the input value at the description level, no change at the employee level.  I have also run a payroll, no change again...

Please tell me there is a more automated way to update this field for 5000 records,  and then obviously set back to No.....
