Payroll processing with Consolidation Sets

Currently we have a one to one relationship with our Payrolls and Consolidation Sets.  We would like to begin processing multiple payrolls under one consolidation set to save on processing times.  Does anyone currently do this?  Or is it possible? How does anyone currently use the consolidation set?
