EDI 852 INBOUND

When using EDI 852 inbound, P47120 requires a document type, however, the document types are defined in the processing options of R47121 (For example, IA for + transactions, II for - transactions and so on). Does doc type have to be written to the F47 files before it is processed by R47121? Doesn't the processing options of R47121 drive the doc types?
