Oracle Inventory r12 - Expiry date - Inventory item - No Lot Control

Hello!

I am wondering about the feasibility, or a workaround if exists, about setting an expiry date on an inventory item when receiving it, and the item is not lot controlled. I am aware that when there is lot control, expiry date can be set at that leve, but when there is not?
